Should I Get Married During Covid?

One reoccurring theme (to no-one’s surprise) that comes up when working with couples is there is a lot to think about when planning your big day. No matter where your wedding falls on the calendar.

If it happens to be in the midst of the coronavirus crisis, you’re probably wondering what you should do – if you should have it at all – or what other alternatives might be. Re-thinking your wedding date, location, and guest count is more than likely at the forefront of your noggin’.

Every wedding I had booked in for later this year has been postponed and rightly so, I completely respect the decision if delaying feels right for them. It is worth noting however, more than a thousand have tied the knot with just five to 10 guests. In hindsight for the couples, it’s not exactly what they pictured, but the legalities are complete, the photos have been taken and why not get your loved ones and extended family and friends together when this has all passed? Who knows how far away that will be…

Take Benny and Naomi’s ceremony for example. A couple of weeks ago now, these two got hitched. Their original plans took many different forms before deciding on a Kimo Estate getaway. It was the smallest ceremony I’ve conducted to date. The delightful photographer Milton Gan doubled as a witness. We managed to find another (in the owner of the property - thank you Christine) and bam we legally had all humans required to make this happen.

Benny is a long-standing mate of mine and I couldn’t have been more pleased with how the doo turned out for him and Naomi. They were forced to think out of the box and that they did! As unfortunate as it was not to have family and friends present, they can’t wait to celebrate with all when able to do so.

Naturally their vows and the scenery stole the show. Given the fact these two live in the centre of Paris (which couldn’t look more different than the Kimo setting), they’ll be able to take the memory and the view of the Australian landscape wherever in the world they find themselves.

Here is a link to Milton’s fab post on his website -check it out, his scribbles and photos sum the elopement up perfectly.

COVID-19 has certainly disrupted the wedding industry but it’s not to say that weddings are obsolete, they are just different. The situation is very fluid, I recommend you remain flexible with your plans, maintain clear and transparent dialogue with your chosen vendors and whether it happens now on a smaller scale or as you’d dreamed later on, whatever feels right, just make the best decision for you.

Your day will come and trust us when we say it will be the most amazing thing.
